Thirty years of birthday cakes….

Happy Saturday evening from a wild
and wet Mid-Cork!

Here are my three covers together! Don’t they look nice? I was introduced to an amazing cover designer a while back, she designs the covers for a friend of mine and I have rebranded all of my books with her and I really love them.

The Hard Way home is out on the 29th on Ebook, print and Large Print and the audio is in the works too but that takes a little longer. If you’d like to preorder the ebook you can do so here: mybook.to/HardWayHome

So, my life is plodding along nicely, as we are beginning the long process of opening up after Covid 19. It’s been nice to see our friends and family again, though not in the way we once did. Coming home from our incredible adventure in Australia to three months of lockdown was a challenge – after nine months in a caravan with your family – I’m not sure anyone would sign up for another three months of 24/7 contact  – no matter how much love was there 😉

This week, my third child Éadaoin (pronounced Ay-Deen), the girl you may have seen play the harp, is going to be twelve. We’ve had the usual conversations about her feeling that she has the most draconian and unreasonable mother on the entire planet because I wont allow her to have a ‘device’.of her own, a phone, or iPod or whatever.  I’m hoping to hold out as long as I can against the screens! She has plenty of diversion but you know it is. Everyone has one except her. Except they don’t. And anyway, as a veteran parent at this stage (my eldest is almost 30) the whole ‘everyone else has one’ doesn’t hold much sway with me.

But anyway, as is the tradition in our house, I set about making her cake. Now I’m an average baker, but when it comes to decorating, well, it’s not my strong suit. Thirty years of caterpillars that look more like worms, butterflies that resemble roadkill and mice that are more reminiscent of deadly creatures that might inhabit the darkest recesses of your nightmares, and still no improvement. So this year, I decided to try for something easier. What could be easier than an owl? Oreos for eyes, chocolate buttons for feathers, and so the end result, well….Look, it’s the thought that counts right?

It will taste lovely I’m sure. 🙂

If I got too good they might accuse me of buying the cake in the shop, and that would never do!

I hope this week is a bright one for you, I know particularly my American friends are facing a very uncertain and worrying time with all that’s going on over there. You are all in my thoughts and I’m sending you all good wishes and thoughts for healing and light.

Take good care of you and yours,

Le grá agus buiochas,

Jean x

PS. The new Conor book is out August 21 – so not long to wait. I get so many emails saying – I loved the historical book but when is Conor coming back? 🙂 So he’s back this summer with more shenanigans in the castle.
